This is a Kato U-30C painted and decalled to represent an Alco Century 424 of
The Belt Railway Company of Chicago. I did the painting, and Jim from TR Custom did the decalling.
I worked as a tower operator for the Belt, and my father was General Counsel.
The Belt still uses Alcos because they are less expensive to operate and maintain than an EMD.

These are two Kato Dash-9 undecs that I painted for Conrail, based on engines I frequently see working the Chrysler plant in Fenton, MO. I used Accu-Flex paint, and a semi-gloss finish from Model Master by Testors. I originally used Accu-Flex satin finish, but to my horror it left a milky white residue on my blue paint job and Micro-Scale decals. So I had to try to strip the paint off with full strength Pine Sol and start all over again. The handrails were painted with a brush in order to leave the walkways black, and required two coats. The engines had to be completely disassembled and the shells were masked for the non-glare black on the nose, as well as the white backgrounds for the number boards.
