Missouri River Eagle

Wednesday, October 06, 2010

Picture taken today at 11:05am near Glencoe.  I got to the riverbank at 10:40am approximately.  There were about eight other people there.

The picture turned out well enough. I just wish there was a little more smoke from the engine and then maybe some clouds in the sky, but us photographers are always too picky.  Actually, I enhanced the smoke a bit.

Just east of this spot is a grade crossing at St. Paul Road which would have presented a great head-on (nearly) shot.  Next time.

BTW, that engine sure is noisy.  And it has a great whistle -- long, low, and deep-throated.

Ha ha.  Actually, the track here must be level or even downgrade because the engine was not straining at all (as you can see from the weak exhaust).  Mostly what you could hear was a lot of metal clanking noise at first and then a loud roar from the trainset going by at a good clip.

My turn! This is roughly 9:50 just north of Valmeyer. Ali called a couple of minutes ago to tell me that he spotted Robyn and me at our stakeout.

Awful lighting, but I caught it at Route 3 in IL, crossing over the bridge.
I mainly shot video. This was all from a iPhone 3GS.

I didn't have time to upload this until now - just about 5 shots cut together. Really nothing special at all. In fact, the movement looks jerky on YouTube... Not sure what's up with that, it looks perfect on my computer. Perhaps it's the compression YouTube uses or it could still be "processing" the video. Watch it in 720 if you can... You ought to see it in 1080P! Gotta love the Canon 7D.
