All Aboard for the Model Train Show!

The 18th Annual Greater St. Louis Metro Area Train Show will be held on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 10, 2009. The show will be held at the Kirkwood Community Center at 111 South Geyer Road in Kirkwood, Missouri. Hours are from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday and 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday. The show is open to the public. Admission is $5. Children ages 12 and under accompanied by an adult are admitted free.

The host for the show is the Mississippi Valley N Scalers, the oldest exclusive N-Scale model railroad club in Missouri. This show offers families the opportunity to see operating model train layouts in a variety of sizes – everything from large garden railroads, to trains so small they are built using tweezers and magnifying glasses. Filling one entire room of the Kirkwood facility are several large award-winning model railroads featuring amazing, life-like details - which have included a miniature drive-in theater with movies playing on its tiny screen and sound supplied via an authentic drive-in speaker. Model trains of all scales will run continuously both days of the event. The modular design of these model railroads allows expansive vistas with several trains running simultaneously on multiple tracks – significantly larger than all but the most ambitious home layouts. The latest digital technology allows operators to control multiple trains on a single track using wireless handheld throttles. Many of these modules participated in the world's largest N scale train layout at the National N Scale Convention.

Each year the organizers try to add something new to the show and the the latest has been one of the smallest operating model trains in the world – the entire train can fit on a human finger. Visitors will also be treated to an “engineer’s-eye-view” of one of the layouts – courtesy of a miniature camera mounted on the locomotive.

For those who get bitten by the model railroad bug, the event also includes dozens of model train dealers from across the country selling model trains, railroad artifacts and memorabilia, and hard-to-find accessories.
